Nearly 4,800 new domestic COVID-19 cases reported on July 20

A further 4,789 domestic cases of COVID-19 were reported in Vietnam on July 20, along with six imported cases quarantined upon arrival.

Hanoi (VNA) - A further 4,789 domestic cases ofCOVID-19 were reported in Vietnam on July 20, along with six imported casesquarantined upon arrival.

Among the new domestic infections, as many as 728 cases weredetected in the community. Others are in quarantined facilities or sealed-offareas.

Ho Chi Minh City recorded the highest number with 3,322cases, followed by the southern provinces of Binh Duong (578), Dong Nai (162)and Tien Giang (133).

Other cases are from Da Nang (61), Khanh Hoa (53), Ha Noi(46), Long An (46), Can Tho (45), Vinh Long (43), Phu Yen (39), Ben Tre (34),Ba Ria - Vung Tau (26), Ninh Thuan (22), Kien Giang (20), Binh Thuan (14), HauGiang (10), Dak Lak (10), Vinh Phuc (9), An Giang (8), Nghe An (8), Binh Phuoc(6), Bac Lieu (4), Bac Ninh (4), Lam Dong (3), Quang Nam (3), Binh Dinh (3),Hung Yen (3), Quang Ngai (2), Kon Tum (2), Lang Son (1), Gia Lai (1), Bac Giang(1) and Dak Nong (1).

The Central Highlands province of Kon Tum reported the firsttwo cases since the start of the pandemic.

The national tally has to date reached 62,820, including60,735 domestically-transmitted and 2,085 imported cases.

Also on July 20, as many as 396 patients have recoveredfully, raising the total number of recoveries to 11,443.

As many as 123 patients are being treated in intensivecare units. Eighteen other cases are in critical condition and being treated withECMO.

A total of 4,305,501 million COVID-19 vaccine doses havebeen administered nationwide.

To date, 180 units nationwide have been allowed to conductCOVID-19 confirmation tests by the Health Ministry./.

Health cooperation adds fresh momentum to Vietnam-US relations

Through this MOU, the US Department of State, working with Congress, plans to provide 98.75 million USD in life-saving global health assistance over the next five years, including 21.385 million USD in dedicated Global Health Security funding, to support Vietnam’s transition to full country ownership of its HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis programmes while strengthening its capacity to detect and respond to emerging and re-emerging infectious disease threats.

Vietnam, US launch five-year health cooperation

The cooperation will also support Vietnam in strengthening its healthcare capacity and gradually enhancing self-reliance in HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis prevention and control programmes, as well as in responding to emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases.

Ho Chi Minh City strengthens grassroots healthcare workforce

Vietnam to screen students nationwide for five health risks from 2028

Vietnam will launch nationwide screening for five groups of school-related diseases and health conditions among students from preschool through high school from 2028, including overweight and obesity, refractive errors, spinal curvature, oral diseases and mental health disorders.

Free health checkups for children ahead of new school year

According to the Hanoi Department of Health, the city has 4,776 educational institutions with more than 2.2 million preschool and school students. The health campaign will run from August 18 to September 4, targeting 100% coverage before the new school year begins.

Hanoi steps up dengue prevention as cases rise

According to the Hanoi Centre for Disease Control (CDC), 316 dengue cases were recorded across 74 communes and wards in the city from August 7-14, up 81 from the previous week. Eleven new outbreaks were also reported, bringing the total number since the beginning of 2026 to 63, with 24 still active.
