As of the end of 2016, the social insurance coverage nationwide reached 81.7 percent of the population, or over 76 million people. 75.9 million people have joined health insurance.

Health insurance covers 81.7 percent of Vietnam’s population
Health insurance covered 81.7 percent of Vietnam’s population in 2016, 2.7 percent higher than the target set by the Prime Minister, according to the Vietnam Social Security (VSS).
More HCM City locals insured in 2016
Increasing hospital fees and benefits from health insurance helped increase the number of people buying health insurance in HCM City last year by nearly 662,000 compared to 2015, according to the city’s Social Insurance Agency.
