Ha Tinh (VNA) – A container shipping route traversing Vung Ang port in the central province of Ha Tinh and accompanying services was officially put into use on May 19.

The route connects Vung Ang port with Hai Phong city in the north and Ho Chi Minh City in the south.

It is formed by the coordination of the Ha Tinh Minerals and Trading Joint Stock Corporation (MITRACO), the Vietnam-Laos Vung Ang Port Joint Stock Company (VLP), and the Saigon New Port Corporation.

Truong Huu Trung, Chairman of MITRACO’s Board of Directors, said the inauguration of the shipping service is an initial step to implement a blueprint on developing logistics services in Ha Tinh by 2030 and also the Vung Ang logistics centre.

The first batches of goods were delivered along this route right on the opening day. They were 300 containers with 5,400 tonnes of cassava starch of the Vedan Vietnam Enterprise Corp. Ltd transported from Vung Ang through Hai Phong to a port in China.

Vung Ang port consists of two wharfs at present. The VLP is building the third wharf at a cost of nearly 1 trillion VND (44.8 million USD). The new facility is able to handle ships of up to 45,000 DWT and container ships of 4,000 TEU.

The VLP is also buying specialised cranes and other equipment, and providing a variety of logistics services.-VNA
