National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung has urged the People’s Deputies newspaper to bring into full play its leading role in the popularisation of constitutional and legislative activities as well as the operation of the legislature and People’s Councils at all levels.

The chief legislator made the appeal at a ceremony in Hanoi on January 3 to honour winners of a press contest on the NA and the People’s Council launched by the newspaper.

He called on the newspaper’s staff to make all-out efforts to really become a mouthpiece of NA and People’s Council deputies.

The top lawmaker highlighted the crucial need for the revolutionary press and the newspaper in particular to popularise the Party’s viewpoints and policies among people of all walks of life both at home and abroad in the process of integration and development, contributing to national construction and development and improving the quality of legislative activities.

The legislative press circle’s mission is to affirm ideas and responsibilities of NA and People’s Council deputies before the population, the ideal of a State of the people, by the people and for the people and the legislature as the most powerful State body, he said.

The Constitution which had been recently approved by the NA was put into life in 2014, he said, asking the People’s Deputies newspaper, together with the press in general, to bring the legal document closer to the public while actively contributing to the legislature’s law-making work.

Last year, the newspaper covered activities of the NA and People’s Council at all levels in a timely and accurate manner, contributing to the national process of democracy and development.-VNA
