Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung gave specific directions to develop the central province of Nghe An into a basically industrialised locality by 2020 during a working session with its authorities on September 16.

Strategically positioned as a gateway to Laos , Thailand and Cambodia and a north-south economic and cultural linkage, Nghe An boasts a vast area and plentiful natural and human resources.

Nghe An economy expanded by 7.24 percent last year and is expected to hit 8-9 percent this year, with the income per capita doubling to 29 million VND (1,300 USD) from 2012.

The PM asked the province to accelerate administrative reform and improve business climate while promoting trade and tourism, especially expanding export markets.

Economic restructuring should be a priority in order to lure capital inflows into industries, including those with high added value and labour demand, he said.

The province was also required to operate the Vietnam-Singapore industrial park in accordance with set regulations, as part of efforts to reel in capital and generate jobs.

The leader suggested building educational and health care development facilities, cut the rate of poor households to below the national average, and develop agriculture in tandem with new-style rural construction with more incentives being provided for effective agro-forestry-fisheries models.

As the provincial Party Congress is approaching, he asked for thorough preparations to elect a contingent of qualified leaders, towards becoming a model province as expected by the late President Ho Chi Minh.

Together with leaders of ministries and agencies, he gave opinions on several transport infrastructure, urban and industrial park projects.

Earlier, the PM paid tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at the Kim Lien relic site in Nam Dan district.-VNA
