The Naval High Command held a ceremony in Vinh city on May 27 to present and lay stones of sovereignty as a gift from the Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago to the central province of Nghe An, the birthplace of President Ho Chi Minh.

This was of deep socio-political significance as regards the sacred national sovereignty over seas and islands.

Speaking at the ceremony, Rear Admiral Nguyen Cong Hoa, Deputy Political Commissar of the Navy Force, confirmed that the Truong Sa and Hoang Sa Archipelagoes hold a strategic position in defence and security and boast abundant natural resources and are of great economic value to national construction and development.

The Navy’s High Command and sailors are proud to give Nghe An province the 21 coral stones which symbolise the 21 islands from the Truong Sa Archipelago, a sacred territorial part of the nation, he said.

Nghe An province decided to display the stones at its museum to raise the local people’s awareness and responsibility over the country’s sea and island sovereignty.

Vice Chairman of the Nghe An provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Xuan Duong said that the stones from Truong Sa represent the will of Truong Sa people and troops and the provincial authorities and people will always take care of Truong Sa./.
