Ninh Binh (VNA) – The northern province of Ninh Binh hopes to receive further support from UNESCO to preserve and promote its cultural heritage as well as better integrate into the world’s network of heritage, tourism and cultural industry hubs and creative cities, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Doan Minh Huan has said.

At a reception for President of the 42nd General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) Simona-Mirela Muculescu on April 26, Huan thanked UNESCO for assisting the province over the past years, helping it to shine bright on the country’s tourism map and rank in the top 10 provinces an cities with the highest numbers of visitors.

Briefing his guest on local historical and cultural values, potential and strengths, he stressed that the Trang An Landscape Complex, recognised by UNESCO as a World Cultural and Natural Heritage Site in 2014, has contributed greatly to making tourism a spearhead economic sector of the province, the region and the whole country.

Bestowed with stunning natural landscapes, Ninh Binh has capitalised on its advantage to develop green and friendly tourism, he said, adding that the preservation of the Trang An Landscape Complex will be associated with sustainable development during which the province will work to harmonise environmental protection, state management, local residents and enterprises.

Its sustainable development policies have created a facelift to localities in the heritage area while driving the economic structural shift, he stated.

Congratulating Ninh Binh on its achievements over the past time, Miculescu said she was impressed by the local breathtaking scenery, and spoke highly of the province’s efforts in renovating and preserving its heritage values.

She expressed her hope that it will reap more successes while rolling out its development strategy, stressing that UNESCO will accompany and support Ninh Binh, especially in the preservation and promotion of the Trang An complex’s heritage values.

Miculescu and a working delegation from UNESCO is paying an official visit to Vietnam and attend a ceremony on April 26 night to mark the 10th anniversary of UNESCO recognition of the Trang An Landscape Complex as a World Cultural and Natural Heritage Site./.
