Northern Lao province suffers widespread power cuts due to storm

A storm has hit Bokeo province in northern Laos, knocking down electricity poles and affecting power supply in the province’s Huayxai and Tonpheung districts, the Lao National Television reported on May 8.

Vientiane (VNA) - A storm has hit Bokeo province in northern Laos, knocking down electricity poles and affecting power supply in the province’s Huayxai and Tonpheung districts, the Lao National Television reported on May 8.

According to the report, the storm hit the province on May 5. It damaged several houses and temples in the province and authorities are currently assessing the extent of the damage.

The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology under the Lao Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment said that the temperature has dropped significantly as a result of the change in the prevailing weather system, but hot weather will continue in all parts of the country, especially in the south. The agency warned that thunderstorms, hail and strong winds are possible in all provinces from May 6-12./.
