Fishermen in Hai Cang ward, Quy Nhon city in the central coastal province of Binh Dinh found their fish cages covered with a thick layer of oil and dead fish floating on the water on July 7.
The oil covered an area of about four hectares, spilling over fish many fish farms along the coast.
The provincial Department of Natural Resources and Environment, the provincial environmental police and local authorities have dispatched officials to the scene to trace the source of the oil.
The Hai Cang People’s Committee has suggested fishermen harvest their fish as soon as possible or move the cages to safer places while using floats, ropes and other tools to stop the oil from entering the cages.-VNA
