Vietnamese students win medals at Asia-Pacific Infomatics Olympiad

All seven members of the Vietnamese team to the 18th Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad (APIO) held in China from May 18 to 19 won medals, the Ministry of Education and Training announced on May 31. ​

Hanoi (VNA) – All seven members of the Vietnamese team to the 18th Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad (APIO) held in China from May 18 to 19 won medals, the Ministry of Education and Training announced on May 31.

According to the ministry, Pham Cong Minh, a 12th grader from the High School for Gifted Students under the Vietnam National University, Hanoi’s University of Sciences won a gold medal, while six remaining members earned silver.

Based on the APIO results, four most excellent students will be selected to join the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) in Egypt from September 1 to 8. With the results, Vietnam ranked sixth among the 35 participating countries and territories, following China, Russia, Japan, the Republic of Korea and Hong Kong (China).

The APIO is an IOI-like competition for delegations within the Asian and Western Pacific regions. The first competition was organised by the Australian IOI team in 2007./.
