Around 1,200 people will take part in the final round of the 41st Open Hanoi Moi Newspaper Run Tournament on October 5 in celebration of the 60th anniversary of Hanoi’s Liberation Day (October 10).
The participants vary in age and include over 200 foreigners and 200 athletes hailing from provinces and cities nationwide. They will also be joined by municipal officials and foreign ambassadors.
The runners will compete in the categories of 1,750m, 3,500m, 5,250m and 8,750m around Hoan Kiem Lake.
Editor-in-chief of Hanoi Moi newspaper To Quang Phan highlighted that the tournament also marks the 15 th anniversary of Hanoi’s UNESCO recognition as a City for Peace and the 57 th anniversary of the founding of the newspaper.
Since its launch on June 28, 2014, the tournament has lured the participation of over 30,000 people to run in qualifying rounds, making it the biggest race so far.-VNA
