Lai Chau (VNA)
– Police in the northern border province of Lai Chau said on July 13 that they have busted a trans-regional drug ring and seized 300,000 pink-coloured Methamphetamine pills weighing more than 30kg.

The drug was transported from Dien Bien province to Lao Cai province by a ring said to consist of Mong ethnic individuals and Lao nationals.

Suspicious activities were reported on bus routes between the two provinces on June 18, 2017 and were linked to the drug ring a week later.

Police began following the case closely on June 25 and uncovered the smuggling of the pink crystals on July 10.

The two traffickers, Sung A Thai, a Lao national, 21, and Ho A Chua, a Vietnamese national, 28, were caught while waiting in Lao Cai for a bus carrying the drug from Dien Bien.

They admitted to be hired by Mong ethnics with Lao citizenship to distribute the illegal goods in Lao Cai. If successful, they would get paid 160 million VND (7,040 USD).

The case is under investigation.
