Thua Thien-Hue (VNA) – Central Thua Thien-Hue province will support offshore fishing activities in Phu Vang and Phu Loc districts starting this month in a project worth more than 9.7 billion VND (426,800 USD).

The funding will be sourced from the provincial budget to support offshore aquaculture and fishing industries in the province.

Phu Vang district will receive roughly 9.3 billion VND (409,254 USD); 95.7 percent of which, or 8.9 billion VND will be spent to provide local fishermen with fuel for their boats while the remainder will help them purchase communication devices and insurance.

Some 473 million VND (20,800 USD) will be allocated to Phu Loc district, with most of the money also used for fuel.

The central province has given local fishermen access to soft loans for fishing boat building and upgrading. It has offered approximately 182 billion VND in soft loans to help build and renovate 42 fishing vessels over the past two years. It plans to bring the number up to 45 to meet the Government’s target by the end of the year.

Since the beginning of this year, Thua Thien-Hue has harvested more than 35,450 tonnes of seafood, up 16.79 percent over the same period last year.-VNA
