
Bac Giang (VNA) – More than 50businesses, cooperatives and markets in and out the northern province of BacGiang – the country’s largest lychee producer - have registered to engage insales of “thieu” lychee – a local fruit specialty.
To facilitate the consumption of this fruit, theprovincial Department of Industry and Trade had worked with the Trade PromotionDepartment, Domestic Markets Department, Asia-Africa Market Department, andEuropean-American Market Department of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, aswell as the Department of Farm Produce Processing and Market Development, PlantProtection Department, and Cultivation Department under the Ministry of Agricultureand Rural Development.
Bac Giang currently has more than 28,100ha oflychee, with output likely to increase by 10,000 tonnes to 160,000 tonnes thisyear.
It has developed a host of plans and scenariosfor lychee trade promotions this year given the COVID-19 outbreak,which is still ravaging many countries around the world. It has set its sightson several main markets, such as Japan, the US, Australia, the EU, and China.
Japan has approved a total of 19 Production UnitCodes (PUCs) for 103ha of lychee grown by 107 local households in Bac Giang.The area includes 98ha of the main crop in Luc Ngan and 5ha of theearly-ripened crop in Tan Yen, which is forecast to produce over 600 tonnes.
The province has also received 18 PUCs for 218haof lychee in Luc Ngan’s six communes - Giap Son, Tan Moc, Tan Son, Hong Giang,Kien Lao, and Tan Quang - for export to the US, Australia, and the EU./.
