Vietnamese diplomatic missions around the world continue to hold celebrations of the Lunar New Year, sharing the joy with overseas Vietnamese communities and local friends.
At a reception hosted by the Vietnamese mission to the UN in New York on Feb. 6, Head of the Vietnamese mission to the UN Ambassador Le Luong Minh spoke of Vietnam ’s important achievements in 2009, saying he believed in the country’s bigger successes in the new year.
The New Year meeting in Australia on Feb. 7 brought together almost 200 Vietnamese expatriates.
Charge d’affaires Nguyen Trac Toan said that amid the global economic crisis, Vietnam and Australia are amongst a few countries that still managed to record growth.
He took the occasion to highlight the contributions made by Vietnamese expatriates in Australia and across the globe to Vietnam ’s socio-economic development last year.
A similar meeting was held the same day by the Vietnam Consulate General in Sydney for overseas Vietnamese living and working in New South Wales.
On the occasion of the New Year, Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Ngo Anh Dung on Feb. 6 gave more than 300 gifts, each worth 20 USD, to overseas Vietnamese in Kien Svay district, Kandal province.
Earlier, the Overseas Vietnamese Association in Cambodia and Vietnamese expatriates’ enterprises distributed more than 500 gifts to poor Vietnamese in Meanchey, Dankao and Rusey Keo districts, Phnom Penh .
Vietnamese Ambassador to Morocco Ngo Thai Duong met with around 100 Vietnamese on Feb. 5 to wish them a happy New Year and praised their contributions to the homeland’s flood victims./.
