The Vietnamese communities in many countries organised activities to express their respect to President Ho Chi Minh on the occasion of his 123 rd birthday (May 19).
In Beijing , the Vietnamese Embassy hosted a friendship exchange on May 18 for Vietnamese and Chinese students. Vietnamese Ambassador to China Nguyen Van Tho said that while Uncle Ho had travelled to many countries in the world in seeking the path for Vietnam ’s revolution, China was the place where he stayed for the longest time. The President also made important contributions to revolutionary movements in China .
Tho expressed his hope that over 13,000 Vietnamese students currently studying in China will continue bridging the Vietnam – China friendship.
In Laos , the Vietnamese Embassy staff joined representatives of the Vietnamese community to visit and offer incense to President Ho Chi Minh at a memorial complex dedicated to him in Khammouan province.
On May 19, the Kaysone Phomvihane Museum began the construction of another memorial complex for President Ho Chi Minh in the central province of Savannakhet of Laos , where the President stayed in 1928 and 1929.
The 1,000sqm will be completed within the next 18 months at a cost of nearly 200,000 USD.
The Politburo of the Lao People’s Party Revolutionary has decided to build three memorial complexes dedicated to President Ho Chi Minh. The third one will be in Vientiane capital city.
Meanwhile in the UK , the Embassy staff and overseas Vietnamese laid a wreath at the New Zealand House, formerly the five-star Carlton hotel where the President worked in 1913.
On the wall of the building, the UK – Vietnam Friendship Association and British friends have attached a plaque to commemorate the fact that President Ho Chi Minh had been there.
Vietnamese Ambassador to the UK and Northern Ireland Vu Quang Minh stressed that this year marks the 100 years since Uncle Ho first came to the UK .
On the occasion, the Vietnamese Embassy in the UK and representatives of the Newhaven municipal Council presented a statue of President Ho Chi Minh to the city museum. British historians believe that Ho Chi Minh used to work in the city for some time.-VNA
