The General Association of Vietnamese Cambodians (GAVC) and the Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia jointly held a ceremony in Phnom Penh on Jan. 14 to welcome the traditional Lunar New Year (Tet) festival.
Attending the ceremony were Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Ngo Anh Dung, GAVC President Chau Van Chi and about 300 Vietnamese people in Phnom Penh and surrounding areas.
Speaking at the event, Ambassador Dung praised the patriotism and revolutionary tradition of the Vietnamese community in Cambodia , calling on them to continue promoting their solidarity and mutual support to have a stable life in Cambodia .
He spoke highly of achievements made by Vietnamese people in Cambodia over the past year and expressed his wish that they will harvest greater achievements in the Year of the Dragon.
He also affirmed that the Party and State always consider the overseas Vietnamese community an inseparable part of the nation.
On the same day, the Vietnamese Consulate General in Sydney held a get-together in celebration of the Lunar New Year.
At the event, Vietnamese Consul General Mai Phuoc Dung said that the country’s achievements over the past year have been greatly contributed by overseas Vietnamese, including those in Australia .
He called on overseas Vietnamese in Australia to organise more practical activities towards their homeland./.
