Moscow (VNA) - Overseas Vietnamese (OVs) in Russia gathered at an art performance to welcome the year 2024 at the Russian University of Transport (MIIT) on December 24.

The event was held by the Vietnamese community in Russia incollaboration with the Vietnamese Embassy and the Association of Vietnamese Students in the country.

In his opening speech, Minister Counselor Le QuangAnh at the Vietnamese Embassy highlighted the significance of the event, saying that it contributes to promotingsolidarity among Vietnamese expats living, working, and studying in Russia.

In2023, the Vietnamese community in Russia has organised many activities, such assports tournaments, cultural programmes, and charity activities, reflecting their effectiveand active integration into the host society, Anh said.

Hewished OVs in Russia a New Yearfull of health, happiness, and success, and urged them to maintain great solidarity, supporteach other and look towards the homeland.

Tran Phu Thuan - Vice Chairman of the Vietnamese Associationin Russia said the community is an inseparable part of the great national unitybloc of Vietnam.

OVs always strive and unite to overcome difficulties to builda strong community, and are ready to contribute to the homeland’s development,he added./.

As part of Vietnam Week in St. Petersburg (May 19–23), a Vietnamese Language and Culture Festival was held on May 21 at High School No. 488 in the city’s Vyborg district, Russia.

Remains of Vietnamese fallen soldiers, experts repatriated from Laos

The remains of 12 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts, who laid down their lives in different periods in Laos’ Savannakhet province, were repatriated following a handover ceremony on May 21. They will be re-buried at the Road 9 National Martyrs Cemetery in Vietnam's central province of Quang Tri on May 22.

Nghe An reburies martyrs' remains repatriated from Laos

Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Phung Thanh Vinh said that carrying a noble international duty, many Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts heroically joined Lao people in their struggle for national liberation and independence. Many of them sacrificed their lives in the country, including more than 12,000 soldiers laying down in the three provinces of Xaysomboun, Vientiane, and Xiangkhouang.

19 localities eradicate substandard houses
