A ceremony and parade marking the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu victory, a victory for the Vietnamese people and army in their nine-year resistance war against French colonialists and leading to the Geneva Accords returning peace to Indochina, took place on May 7, 2024 in Dien Bien province.
The ceremony was a critically important political event designed to promote the country’s patriotic and revolutionary traditions.
A special music show was held by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in Dien Bien Phu city, the northwestern province of Dien Bien, on May 6 to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954-2024).
Bicycles became known as the “King of Transport” and played a crucial role in the victory of the Dien Bien Phu Campaign in 1954. The nearly 21,000 bicycles pressed into service enabled Vietnam to achieve its miraculous Dien Bien Phu Victory.
At 5.30pm on May 7, 1954, the “Determined to Fight, Determined to Win” flag of the Vietnam People’s Army was raised on the top of the command bunker of French General De Castries, marking the end of 56 days and nights of steadfast, brave, and ingenious fighting by our soldiers and people. The Dien Bien Phu Campaign was a complete victory - a triumph that “resounded across the five continents and shook the world.”
