Party General Secretary and National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong has expressed the hope that with resilient revolutionary tradition, the HCM City Party Committee will lead the implementation of the 11th National Party Congress’s Resolution.
The Party chief made the statement during his pre-Tet visit to HCM City on Jan. 29.
He stressed that the city is always leading the way in important historical events and has made great contributions to past struggles for national liberation and reunification.
The Party leader praised the great achievements recorded by the municipal Party Committee, authorities, people and armed forces.
Politburo member and Secretary of the HCM City Party Committee Le Thanh Hai said the city has attained an annual economic growth of over 11 percent over the past five years, 1.5 times the country’s average.
The city’s economy has been boosted by growth in imports-exports, foreign direct investment and official development assistance (ODA), Hai added.
However, he pointed out major challenges and difficulties to the city, including increasing traffic congestion which has severely affected people’s lives, and worsening flooding due to the impact of climate change.
On this occasion, Party General Secretary Trong visited Vo Chi Cong, former Politburo member and former President of the State Council, and burnt incense to Nguyen Van Linh, the late Party General Secretary, and Nguyen Huu Tho, the late acting State President and NA Chairman, at their private houses.
In Hanoi, State President Nguyen Minh Triet made pre-Tet visits to former Party General Secretaries Do Muoi and Le Kha Phieu and former State Presidents Le Duc Anh and Tran Duc Luong.
He also visited and send best wishes for Tet to General Vo Nguyen Giap, former NA Deputy Chairman Nguyen Phuc Thanh, former Deputy Defence Minister Sen. Lt. Gen.
