The Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee (CPVCC) wrapped up its 10th meeting in Hanoi on January 12 with a review of the leadership and direction of the Politburo and the Party Secretariat in 2014 and a discussion on a new roadmap for national development in 2016-20.

They examined the completion of the draft political report of the CPVCC (11th tenure), which is due to be submitted to the 12th National Party Congress to be held in 2016.

Based on the achievements of the 30 years of reform (1986-2015) and the five years of implementing the 12th National Party Congress’s Resolution (2011-2015), the Central Committee will work out a new roadmap for national development.

Part of the CPVCC’s major task will be to determine the direction and objectives to develop the country from 2016-20, while revisiting issues related to the socialist-oriented market economy mechanism and to the country’s economic growth model in the path towards industrialisation.

The CPVCC emphasised the need for Party building, especially in efforts to prevent and curb the degradation of political ideology, ethics and lifestyle among Party members.

Regarding civil service reforms, the Committee said it is important to improve existing staff and attract talented people to work for the Party and State agencies, organisations and public units.

The Committee also said more breakthrough mechanisms and policies are needed to improve the quality of public services, and speed up reforms of administrative and civil services to cut down on redundant jobs.

In terms of the development and management of the press, the Committee said it is necessary to promulgate a comprehensive plan by 2025.

It said the press should be developed professionally and effectively to meet public demand for information, while uniting society and contributing to the development of the country and its people.

The State should issue policies to ensure the press is not purely run for profit, not influenced by interest groups, and prevent the privatisation of this sector, the Committee proposed.

At the end of the meeting, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong delivered a closing speech, urging the entire Party and people from all walks of life to build on past achievements and realise the development goals set by the CPVCC.

He declared the 10th meeting a success which would encourage Vietnam to usher in 2015 with stronger will and motivation.-VNA
