Hanoi (VNA) – General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong on June 17 met with voters in Thanh Xuan, Ha Dong and Cau Giay districts, Hanoi, to inform them about outcomes of the recent fifth meeting of the 14th National Assembly.

Most of the voters highly valued results of the legislative meeting, which, they said, reflects reform and democracy.

They raised concerns over a range of issues like traffic safety, firefighting, environmental protection, food safety and hygiene, and salary and social insurance policies.

Many agreed with the policy on building special administrative-economic units. However, they said, the process requires a cautious, comprehensive study.

They applauded the NA’s decision to postpone the adoption of the draft Law on Special Administrative-Economic Units, saying the decision reflects the legislature’s response to opinions of voters and people.

Party General Secretary Trong said the building of special administrative-economic units aims to attract more foreign investors and pilot new mechanisms in order to spur national economic growth.

“However, we should be cautious because it is a new, tough, sensitive, important matter,” the leader noted.

Talking about people gathering to protest the draft law, the Party chief said those taking advantage of the situation to sabotage the Party, State and regime, and harm national interests must be strictly punished.

He called on voters and people nationwide to keep calm, be vigilant and trust the leadership of the Party, State and Government.

On the cyber security law, he said many countries around the world have this regulation. He stressed the need to have the cyber security law to protect cyber security, the interests of people as well as the regime amidst the development of high technology.

The National Assembly recently approved the cyber security law with 86.86 percent of votes.

On anti-corruption, the Party chief agreed with voters’ opinions that the fight needs the involvement of all people.

The draft law on anti-corruption discussed at the fifth meeting of the 14th NA has two new points – corruption combat in the private sector and asset declaration, he said, asking voters to continue giving opinions on the bill so as to be approved in next meeting.

The Party chief also agreed with opinions on the need to promote the role of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, increase the supervision of voters and people as well as the role of press in national building and safeguarding in general and the fight against corruption in particular.-VNA
