Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong left Sochi city on the morning of November 26 (local time), concluding his official visit to Russia at the invitation of President Vladimir Putin.
During his stay from November 23-26, the Party leader held talks with Putin, and met with Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, Chairwoman of Russia’s Federation Council (Upper House) Valentina Matvienko and Acting Chairman of the Russian State Duma (Lower House) Ivan Melnikov. He also met with Russian war veterans and experts who worked in Vietnam, and representatives of the Russia-Vietnam Friendship Association.
During the talks and meetings, the two sides informed each other of their respective country’s socio-economic situation and agreed on specific measures to expand bilateral collaboration.
They also exchanged views on several regional and international issues of mutual concern.
The leaders affirmed their commitment to pursuing the consistent policy of intensifying the Vietnam-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership for the long-term benefit of both sides. They stressed the importance of continuing joint efforts to promote coordination in all fields.
Upon leaving Sochi, the Party chief sent a message to President Putin expressing thanks for the warm reception by the President and other Russian leaders and people.
The message also conveyed the belief that the positive outcomes of this visit, especially the joint statement, will serve as a foundation to further consolidate and deepen the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Russia and lift it to a new height, matching the two countries’ potential and their people’s aspirations, for a brighter future of both countries, as well as for peace, stability, cooperation and development of the Asian-Pacific region and the world.
“I bring with me a deep impression of a beautiful Russia with kind-hearted and hospitable people and a firm faith in our countries’ fine future”, the message wrote.
