Party chief meets with Myanmar State Counsellor

Naypyidaw (VNA) – General Secretaryof the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong and Myanmar State CounsellorAung San Suu Kyi exchanged major orientations to boost cooperation between thetwo countries in the time ahead during their meeting in Naypyidaw on August 25.

The two sides highly valued the officialestablishment of the Vietnam-Myanmar comprehensive cooperative partnershipframework, creating a new milestone and momentum for the bilateralcollaboration across the fields.

Aung San Suu Kyi affirmed Myanmar and Vietnamare reliable friends and her country wants to continue accompanying Vietnam andlearn from its experience, while Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong said Vietnamalways considers Myanmar a priority in its external affairs policies.

They agreed to increase delegation exchanges atall level in all channels from the Party, Government and State to thelegislature to increase political trust, reinforce friendship and boost comprehensivecooperation.

The host and guest concurred to strengthencoordination, exchange information and consultations and provide mutual supportat multilateral, regional and international forums to maintain solidarity,unification and promote the central role of ASEAN in the regional securityarchitecture.

They emphasised that the maintenance of peace,stability, freedom, and safety of navigation and overflight in the East Sea notonly benefits the involved parties but also the region and beyond. 

The two sides advocated efforts to acceleratethe settlement of any disputes via peaceful means and in line withinternational law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law ofthe Sea (UNCLOS), while strictly implementing the Declaration on the Conduct ofParties in the East Sea (DOC) and soon reaching a Code of Conduct in the EastSea (COC).

During the meeting, Party leader Trong informedthe host about the outcomes of his talks with President Htin Kyaw. He notedthat the two countries agreed to elevate the bilateral relations tocomprehensive cooperative partnership and signed a number of cooperationagreements in key pillars, including politics, economics-investment,defense-security, and culture-education.-VNA

Voter turnout exceeds 80% nationwide by mid-afternoon

Many localities have recorded high voter turnout, particularly several northern mountainous provinces such as Lao Cai, Dien Bien, Lai Chau, and Tuyen Quang. Other localities, including Ha Tinh, Da Nang, Lang Son, Nghe An, and Thai Nguyen, have also reported a rate of more than 90%.
