Hanoi (VNA) – Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith were delighted with deepened special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries at their meeting in Hanoi on October 25.
The leaders pledged that the two countries will work together to maintain and foster the special solidarity for the next generation.
Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith is in Hanoi for ACMECS-7, CLMV-8 and WEF-Mekong.
He thanked Vietnam for providing timely huge, efficient assistance for Laos over the years and asserted that the Lao Government will work closely with the Vietnamese Government to steer the productive implementation of agreements reached by senior Party and State officials.
The Party chief congratulated Laos on having accomplished its ASEAN Chairmanship in 2016, saying this heightened the country’s prestige and position on the regional and global stages.
He said Vietnam wholeheartedly supports Laos’s reform, defence and nation-building and believed in the country’s capacity to obtain greater achievements in the cause.
He stressed the need to the two countries to coordinate to deploy soundly agreements on economy, education, culture, science and technology, especially a cooperation agreement signed between the two governments for 2016-2020 and a cooperation plan for 2016, which focused on the exchange of information and experience in Party building, socio-economic management, and cooperation in derence, security and external affairs.
The existing cooperative mechanisms should be maximised while difficulties and obstacles must be tackled promptly to create positive and practical changes in the quality and efficiency of cooperation across the board between the two countries, he said.-VNA
