Party General Secretary and National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong sent condolences on April 2 to the landslide victims’ families and provincial authorities in Nghe An.
“I am very sad to hear the news of the landslide in Nam Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district of Nghe An on April 1 that left many deaths and injuries,” Party General Secretary Trong said in his letter.
On behalf of the Party and State, he expressed deep sorrow over the landslide and asked relevant agencies and Nghe An provincial authorities to continue rescue efforts and the search for landslide victims.
According to the search and rescue team, by April 2 afternoon 17 people had been found dead under the heap of rocks. The team is searching for one missing thought to be trapped inside the rubble.
Also on April 2, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Huynh Dam extended his condolences to the Nghe An province authorities and the victims’ families in the accident.
The Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Standing Board provided the victims’ families with 5 million VND for each death and 3 million VND for each injured person in support, Huynh Dam said in his letter.
Witnesses said that, when workers were digging for rocks on Len Co mountain, they were suddenly covered by soil and stones in the landslide that happened at 8am of April 1
Authorities from the central province of Nghe An decided to use explosives to remove rock and uncover the victims./.
