Politburo member and standing member of the Secretariat of the Party Central Committee Le Hong Anh has asked the central province of Nghe An to mobilise all possible resources in its recovery from the recent storms Nari and Wutip, the tenth and eleventh to hit Vietnam this year.
Speaking to the provincial authorities in the locality on October 29, Anh lauded Nghe An for its efforts to minimise losses in lives and property over the past time. He asked them to learn from their experiences so that they can be better prepared for natural disasters in the future.
They were also requested to provide relief for victims and their families while doing all they can to help them settle their lives.
He suggested assigning working groups responsible for treating water and distributing medicines to locals. Anh said it is crucial to avert any potential disease outbreak, restore key infrastructure buildings and ensure social welfare for all.
In the near future, relevant ministries and agencies will join with Nghe An in its recovery efforts. They are expected to work with the locality to outline plans on climate change response, natural resources management and environmental protection that suit its realities.
The past storms have left a trail of destruction in Nghe An. Six lost their lives, two were injured and economic losses are estimated at over 1.6 trillion VND (76 million USD).
The province asked for State aid worth over 1.7 trillion VND (80 million USD) that will be spent on repairing dams, transport and irrigation works.
Nghe An was the last leg of Anh’s October 26-29 tour which also took him to the central provinces of Quang Tri, Quang Binh and Ha Tinh. His visit was to inspect the progress of the post-storm clean-ups, before submitting to the Politburo sustainable storm prevention schemes exclusively designed for the central region and Nghe An in particular.-VNA
