Peoples procuracy honoured with highest award

State President Nguyen Minh Triet has presented the staff of the people’s procuracy sector with the Golden Star Order for their contributions to the development of the nation’s judiciary over the last half century.
State President Nguyen Minh Triet has presented the staff of thepeople’s procuracy sector with the Golden Star Order, the highest Statehonour, for their contributions to the development of the nation’sjudiciary over the last half century.

The Stateleader said at a ceremony in Hanoi on July 26, that the strategy forjudicial reforms until 2020 calls for a transparent, democratic andstrict system of justice which is taking steps to modernise to protectordinary people’s rights and safeguard the Socialist Republic ofVietnam.

“The judicial sector should thereforeconstantly overhaul itself and take the initiative in the struggleagainst crime, which safeguards Socialist legislation and ensurespolitical security and public order,” Triet emphasised.

He urged the sector to focus on improving the quality of its staffthat carry out prosecutions and supervise judicial operations, frominvestigations to trials in court.

These steps arenecessary to avoid offenders escaping prosecution or punishing innocentpeople, said the State leader, urging the Supreme People’s Procuracy totake a firm line on crimes concerning corruption.

The top judicial officer, Tran Quoc Vuong, reported at the ceremonythat his agency has helped the National Assembly and Government torecover hundreds of billions of VND to State coffers.

He added that the procuracy has also helped to bring numerouscriminal cases to justice, helping to enforce socio-economic management.

The people’s procuracy has been awarded the HoChi Minh Order twice and a number of its locations and individual staffmembers have been conferred with the Labour Order since its foundationon July 26, 1960./.
