
Pepper exports surge 58% in value despite lower volume

Nguyen Duc Dung, Deputy General Director of the Mercantile Exchange of Vietnam (MXV), noted that coffee prices in the global market rose sharply. As a result, Vietnam's coffee export value increased by over 37% during this period, though its export volume decreased by 22%.
According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association, the country exported 28,000 tonnes of pepper during this period, generating an impressive revenue of 188.7 million USD.
The Vietnam International Pepper and Spice Outlook 2025 (VIPO 2025) opened in Ho Chi Minh City on March 3, attracting more than 300 participants, who are experts, domestic and international producers and exporters, farmers, and representatives from localities.
Vietnam exported 235,335 tonnes of pepper, including 207,498 tonnes of black pepper and 27,837 tonnes of white pepper, in January - November to earn 1.22 billion USD, with the US being the biggest importer, according to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA).
Vietnam exported 18,415 tonnes of pepper in October, valued at 120.6 million USD, the General Department of Customs has reported.
Vietnam’s export value of pepper reached nearly 630 million USD in the first six months of 2024, an increase of over 30% compared to the same period in 2023.
In the first four months of this year, the European Union imported a total of 11,359 tonnes of pepper from Vietnam. The EU pepper exports were valued at over 48.5 million euros, up 25.1% year-on-year in volume and 32.1% in value.
So far this year, Vietnam has shipped abroad over 114,400 tonnes of pepper worth more than 493 million USD, down 13 in volume but up 20% in value over the same period last year.
