Hanoi (VNA) - General Director of the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam) Le Ngoc Son hosted a reception for Algerian Ambassador to Vietnam Sofiane Chaib on September 10.

Son congratulated Chaib on his appointment as the Algerian Ambassador to Vietnam and expressed confidence that, in his new role, the diplomat will act as a bridge of friendship to strengthen cooperative ties between Vietnam and Algeria in general, and between the oil-gas and energy sectors of the two countries in particular.

He briefed the ambassador on the group’s activities, the results of cooperation in the field of oil and gas search, exploration and exploitation between Petrovietnam and the Algerian state-owned oil group Sonatrach as well as related activities.

Son stressed that the oil-gas and energy sectors in general have played a crucial role in the friendly and cooperative relations between Vietnam and Algeria over the past 60 years.

In recent years, Petrovietnam and its member units have actively collaborated with Sonatrach and Algerian enterprises. Notably, the Bir Seba project, a cooperation project between Petrovietnam/Petrovietnam Exploration Production Corporation (PVEP) and Sonatrach, has been operating effectively in recent years, bringing benefits to the participating parties, he said, elaborating that the project is also a symbol of the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Algeria in the oil and gas sector.

Son said he hoped that the ambassador will continue to pay attention to and support Petrovietnam/PVEP in implementing oil and gas projects in the time to come.

For his part, Chaib affirmed that the successes reaped by Petrovietnam and Sonatrach have contributed to deepening the friendship and cooperation between Algeria and Vietnam over the past 60 years. He also expressed his delight at the results of Petrovietnam’s activities in recent years.

On this occasion, the ambassador thanked Petrovietnam/PVEP for accompanying and cooperating with the embassy to organise relating activities and events within the framework of the 60th founding anniversary of Vietnam-Algeria diplomatic ties.

He also pledged to support Petrovietnam and its member units in their expansion and search for investment opportunities in Algeria./.
