Phu Quoc island district in the southern province of Kien Giang has taken a number of measures to develop the island into a hi-end eco-tourism destination of the region and the world, a local official said.

It is calling for investment in infrastructure facilities on the island, Vice Chairman of the district People’s Committee Huynh Quang Hung said.

Communication campaigns have been boosted to raise awareness of environmental protection among local enterprises and the community, Hung said.

The locality has also focused on enhancing supervision, management and human resource training to enhance service quality while actively connecting with international partners to introduce the local potential to international tourists.

Phu Quoc island, the nation’s biggest island with an area of nearly 600 square kilometres, is endowed with favourable natural conditions for developing ecotourism such as beautiful beaches with white and golden sand, crystal-clear and blue water, pristine forests and a mild climate.

It sits in a favourable location to connect with key tourism markets in the region and the world.

Phung Xuan Mai, Vice Chairman of the Kien Giang Association of Enterprises and the General Director of the Sai Gon – Phu Quoc JSC, hailed the development of infrastructure facilities on the island.

He also stressed the need for a promotion strategy to lure tourists to the locality, adding that incentives should be devised to enhance the key role of enterprises in promoting local potential.

Nguyen Van Tuan, General Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT), highlighted the investment of giant property developers, such as the Vin group, BIM Group and Sun Group, saying that these projects enhance the competitiveness of the locality.-VNA
