Hanoi (VNA) – More than 61,000 people, including 3,919 foreigners, paid tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleum in Hanoi during the five-day National Reunification (April 30) and May Day (May 1) holidays, starting from April 27.
The Hanoi Department of Tourism and the Ho ChiMinh Mausoleum Management Board delivered bread and a bottle of water or milk free of charge to visitors to the mausoleum on April 30 and May 1.
President Ho Chi Minh was born on May 19, 1890 in KimLien commune, Nam Dan district, Nghe An province. He devoted his whole life tothe cause of national liberation, while tirelessly striving for peace andprogress around the world.
He led the struggle for national independence andestablished the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republicof Vietnam, in 1945.
The President passed away in 1969. His body wasembalmed and placed in a glass coffin inside the granite mausoleum.
The mausoleum has become an important landmark ofthe capital city and is integral to the political and social historyof Vietnam./.
