A delegation from Phu Tho authorities and social organisations visited the province’s general hospital on October 12 to distribute aid to victims of the devastating blast that rocked a firework factory in Thanh Ba district earlier the same day.

Doctors from Military Hospital 103 and the National Institute of Burns in Hanoi were sent to Phu Tho to help local doctors treat burned patients. Seriously injured people were transported to central hospitals in Hanoi for treatment.

According to the latest report released on October 13, the explosion at the Z4 wing of the Z121 military factory - run by General Department of the Defence Industry under the Ministry of Defence - took the lives of 24 people and injured 97 others.

The explosion also damaged hundreds of houses and other buildings.

According to the local authority, a technical fault led to the initial explosion. Fire then spread to the production establishment where an estimated 17,000 boxes of fireworks were stored and caught fire.

Families of the deceased workers will be given 50 million VND by the ministry (who will also provide 30 million VND to the families of deceased local people not employed at the factory), 5 million VND by the general department and 5 million VND from local authorities.

Injured people will be given 10 million VND by the ministry, 3 million VND by the department and 2 million VND by provincial authorities.

The owners of damaged homes will be compensated 10 million VND by the province.
