Illustrative image (Source: VNA) Phu Tho (VNA) - The northernprovince of Phu Tho plans to spend 118 billion VND (more than 5 million USD) ondeveloping the tea sector to improve the productivity and quality of local teaproducts.
Vice Director of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural DevelopmentTran Tu Anh said tea is one of the locality’s key industrial plants.
Phu Tho will focus on restructuring the tea industry to improve effectiveness andsustainably develop links between production, processing and consumption; and applyingnew technologies in production while diversifying products, thus increasing thevalue of products and income for local farmers.
The province is currently ranked fourth in terms of area and third in tea outputamong tea producing localities across Vietnam.
In 2018, the province's tea plantation area was 16,200 ha and production offresh tea bud was estimated at nearly 173 thousand tonnes.
Phu Tho is home to 59 large scale teaprocessing establishments, with capacity of at least 1 tonne of fresh buds perday, and more than 1,280 smaller ones.
The locality has 15 craft villages and eight tea production and processingcooperatives. It is building some green tea brands such as Bao Long tea, HaTrang tea, and Phu Ho tea.
Phu Tho has suitable soil and climate conditions to develop tea. The tea growingarea in the locality has been increasing, while the quality of tea has beenimproved.
The locality has also paid attention to raising public awareness of food safetyin producing tea, and asking them to strictly abide by new cultivationtechniques. -VNA
