Phu Tho: 1.2-tonne bomb successfully detonated

On November 17, residents of Hong Ha 2 Area in Thanh Mieu ward, Phu Tho province discovered the bomb submerged in water near Viet Tri bridge and brought it ashore. Upon receiving the report, the engineering unit of the provincial Military Command immediately arrived at the scene and identified it as the remaining body of an M118 demolition bomb left over from war.

Cluster bomb safely detonated in Phu Tho province

The bomb, measuring about 1.8 metres in length and 0.4 metres in diameter, was an exploded American-made CBU-87 cluster munition dropped during the war. Technical documents note that such “mother” bombs have auxiliary explosions that are capable of causing severe casualties if detonated.
