The Party and State vow to create all possible conditions to help the Vietnamese revolutionary press to grow vigorously, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has asserted.

While meeting with journalists ahead of the 90th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21) in Hanoi on June 19, the PM said the Party and State are fully aware of the vital role and significant contributions of the Vietnamese revolutionary press to the cause of national independence, reunification, construction and development.

Many journalists have braved dangers during the war to fulfil their noble missions assigned to them by the Party, State and the people, he said, adding that in the cause of socio-economic development, the press has helped create social consensus in implementing the Party and State’s policies, while timely conveying the public’s feedback to the Party and State.

The press has also made significant contributions to the protection of the national sea and island sovereignty, the PM said.

He stressed that the press also face great challenges in the new situation, which requires that journalists must be active and creative in order to fulfil their political tasks and ensure the people’s right to information and free speech, given the highly-competitive market economy and the boom of information technology.

The PM also took note of aspirations and feedback of senior journalists and leaders of news agencies, and discussed issues of journalists’ concerns, including State management and development planning of the press.

The PM asked ministries, sectors and localities to continue provide the press with prompt and exact information about the socio-economic situation.-VNA
