Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has approved an extension of the deadline for requirements related to translating and editing of content on foreign TV channels to May 15, 2013.

The deadline was previously set for November 15 this year, and requires all content to be edited to meet Vietnam 's media and advertising laws, except for live broadcasts of international and regional sporting events and ceremonies.

There are four types of pay-TV services in the country, including digital terrestrial, digital satellite, digital/analog cable and internet protocol television (IPTV) with 62 local and 25 foreign channels serving 4.4 million subscribers nationwide.

The requirements in editing and translating (for almost 100 percent content) have caused some trouble for service providers in ensuring the technological and human resources needed for the work.

The Ministry has also requested all units working on the editing and translating of content on foreign TV channels and service providers to prepare to meet all requirements when the regulation becomes effective in May.-VNA
