Hanoi (VNA) – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Chairman of the National Emulation-Commendation Council, chaired the council’s 8th meeting in Hanoi on July 12 to review its operations in the first half of 2024 and launch tasks for the rest of the year.

Opening the meeting, the Government leader highlighted the country’s comprehensive achievements across all fields, with macro-economic situation stabilised, inflation controlled, economic balances ensured, and people’s living conditions improved, as well as the country’s position in the world arena enhanced.

He underlined the contributions that emulation and commendation activities made to the results, citing many effective movements such as those in developing the strategic infrastructure system, completing the Circuit-3 500kV power line, and promoting the digital transformation. He noted that the budget saving movement helped save 700 trillion VND (27.53 billion USD), enabling the base salary increase from July 1.

Stressing that the movements should be associated with the interest of the nation and individuals, PM Chinh said that it is necessary to strengthen communications to spread a positive atmosphere in the community towards the completion of targets set at the 13th National Party Congress.

Regarding tasks for the council in the rest of the year, Chinh asked members to multiply effective measures and models, while drawing lessons from the first six months of the year for better performance.

According to the council, in the first half of this year, the council completed its set tasks, giving advice to authorised agencies in building legal documents regarding emulation and commendation following the 2022 Law on Emulation and Commendation.

Agencies in charge of emulation and commendation activities in central agencies, ministries, sectors, and localities have provided guidelines on the work and measures to enhance the quality of the movements.

As a result, many movements have been implemented effectively, making positive contributions to the socio-economic development, security-defence, and external affairs of the countries.

Notably, movements launched by the PM in building new-style rural areas, implementing office culture, promoting infrastructure development, practicing thrift, and forming a life-long learning society have proved their role in the country’s development.

Collectives and individuals with outstanding achievement in their working areas have been honoured in a timely manner, according to the council.

At the event, PM Chinh tasked the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Transport to closely join hands with the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committees and relevant ministries, sectors and localities to launch an emulation movement to complete the projects on highways in 500 days and nights./.
