PM directs int’l integration promotion

The Prime Minister has asked the Interdisciplinary Steering Committee for international integration in politics, security, defence, economics, socio-culture, science-technology and education-training to improve the quality of its consultancy on policymaking so as to make international integration an effective means of promoting sustainable development and safeguarding national sovereignty and security.

Vietnnam has defined staying proactive and positive in internationalintegration a key strategic direction to the success of nationalconstruction and defence.

The PM asked forharmonious operations of coordination mechanism between ministries,sectors, supportive bodies of the National Steering Committee andagencies in charge of pushing international integration in localities.

Ministries,Ministerial-level agencies and agencies directly under the Governmentwere required to intensify and uphold the role of multilateraldiplomatic work by actively engaging in the building of multilateralcooperation mechanisms in line with the country’s interests.

Sustainabledevelopment initiatives and responses to global challenges wereencouraged to be set up and introduced in important forums to furtherincrease Vietnam’s global position.

Localities, enterprisesand business associations will work to expand economic ties with foreignpartners while enhancing communications on opportunities and challengesthat Vietnamese businesses will face during the integration process,especially in the context of the upcoming ASEAN Community formation andthe implementation of Vietnam’s new economic and trade commitments.

The PM assigned the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) to work withrelevant ministries and sectors to build the country’s multilateraldiplomatic orientations by 2030.

MoFA was alsorequested to urge Ministries, sectors and localities to implementbilateral diplomatic initiatives in accordance with their functions andtasks, including assuming international responsibility, hosting keymultilateral events, building post-2015 ASEAN visions, improving theefficiency of links within Mekong Sub-region, realising internationalcommitments, taking advantage of free trade agreements signed withpartners and promoting the completion of negotiations on other FTAs.

The Ministry will also work to call on foreign partners to recognise Vietnam’s market economy before December 31, 2018.

Meanwhile,the Ministry of Industry and Trade will team up with relevantministries and sectors to accelerate the conclusion of negotiations onfree trade agreements such as the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP)agreement, the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) andFTAs with the EU and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) whileactively implementing newly-signed FTAs Vietnam inked with the EurasianEconomic Union (EAEU) and the Republic of Korea.

The Ministry ofPlanning and Investment (MoPI) along with other ministries and sectorswill concentrate on researching sea-based economic developmentstrategies, the electronic network economy, connecting production valuechains and proposing promotion measures.

MoPI will also beresponsible for enhancing legal frameworks and standards related togovernment public procurement, public-private cooperation and tender inline with international commitments.
Provincial andmunicipal People’s Committees are requested to build and implement localinternational integration action plans focusing on improvingcompetitiveness, investment and the business climate; promotingadministrative reform; and fostering local-level links with foreignpartners.

In order to support enterprises in boostinginternational integration, authorities of Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, DaNang and other related localities will actively prepare forinternational events in Vietnam, including activities for the APEC Yearin 2017.

The Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry willactively raise enterprise awareness of the country’s new economic andtrade commitments and urge businesses to get involved in implementinginternational integration activities.-VNA

Ho Chi Minh City, EU boast ample room for sustainable development cooperation

Since the establishment of their diplomatic ties in 1990, Vietnam and the EU have deepened the bilateral ties into one of the bloc’s most dynamic and in-depth partnerships with an ASEAN member, Ha noted, adding that the relationship entered a new chapter in January when the President of European Council’s visit upgraded it to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Vietnam ready to strengthen BRICS connection with Asia-Pacific

Hang called on countries to act responsibly in accordance with international law and the UN Charter; respect the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of states; refrain from using or threatening to use force; and settle disputes peacefully through dialogue. She also underscored the importance of ensuring security, safety and freedom of navigation through straits in line with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

Photo exhibition highlights Vietnam–DPRK relations

Visitors at the exhibition were moved by historical photographs dating back nearly 70 years, including images of the founding leader of the DPRK Kim Il Sung personally welcoming President Ho Chi Minh and a CPV delegation at Pyongyang’s Sunan International Airport during their visit to the DPRK from July 8–12, 1957. In return, the DPRK leader paid an official visit to Vietnam from November 27 to December 3, 1958.
