Hanoi (VNA) - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has pledged to create favourable conditions for the public security ministries of Vietnam and China to deepen their result-oriented cooperation, contributing to the bilateral comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

Receiving Chinese Minister of Public Security Guo Shengkun in Hanoi on September 26, PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc urged the two public security ministries to carry out their cooperation agreements more effectively, guided by the common perception reached by leaders of the two countries.

Specifically, the PM suggested the two sides organize more regular meetings at central, provincial and district levels to better address problems arising in areas along the two countries’ border. The two ministries should also enhance the sharing of information and experience in combating crimes, particularly hi-tech crime and sabotage of national security, while launching more joint drives to crack down on transnational crime such as drug and human trafficking.

In addition, PM Phuc called for boosting economic, trade and investment cooperation. He affirmed that Vietnam always offers the best possible conditions for Chinese investors but it hopes Chinese investors will bring advanced and environmentally-friendly technologies to Vietnam and ensure the progress of their projects.

The PM emphasized that the two countries should address the sea-related issue in the spirit of understanding and mutual respect while seriously abiding to the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and working towards finalizing a Code of Conduct in the East Sea, with a view to ensuring peace, stability, and freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea.

For his part, Minister Guo Shengkun informed his host that the two countries’ Public Security Ministries had successfully organized their fifth conference on preventing and combating crimes. Since the first conference was held in 2008, this cooperation mechanism has proved to be useful for the two ministries in safeguarding security and stability in border areas and protecting citizens’ legitimate rights and interests.

The minister supported the view that the two sides should increase mutual visits and intensify partnership not only in law enforcement and security but also in economic activities and trade, benefiting people of both countries.

He expressed wish for bilateral collaboration to develop infrastructure in areas along the two countries’ border.

China always encourages its firms to invest in Vietnam, he said, noting that China supports Vietnam’s move to tighten environmental protection regulations and objects to firms taking outdated, fuel consuming and polluting technologies into Vietnam.

The Chinese minister also noted his hope that the two countries increase people-to-people exchange, particularly exchanges between young people such as the Vietnam-China Young People Festival. He called for more direct flights between the two countries and more cooperation at sea in line with the agreement reached by their leaders.-VNA
