Hanoi wants to be friends with all cities and capitals in the world for peace, friendship, cooperation, development and mutual benefits, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung affirmed while receiving foreign delegations to celebrations of the 1,000th anniversary of Hanoi on Oct. 9.
He said that the presence of foreign friends brought sentiments and friendship to Hanoi and Vietnam . Thang Long-Hanoi turned into the age of 1,000 and this was the pride of the nation, he noted.
With many ups and downs in history, Hanoi has been always the centre and the crystallised place of cultural quintessence and civilised traditions of the country, he said. The city has obtained achievements in all fields of politics, economics, culture and society, thus contributing to the development of the country. To have such achievements, besides its own efforts, Hanoi received valuable supports and assistance from capital and cities all over the world, the PM stressed.
He took this occasion to thank countries for their friendship, and supports to Vietnam in the past and at present.
Also on Oct. 9, officials of the Hanoi People’s Committee met with over 30 foreign delegations to the celebrations of Hanoi .
During celebrations of the 1,000 th anniversary of Hanoi , many cities and countries all over the world take part in programmes of the celebrations.
Toulouse city of France signed with Hanoi a cooperation pact to helping the latter continue with projects on preservation of ancient quarters.
Many other cities such as Moscow of Russia, Tianjin of China, Fukuoka of Japan and Lion of France are taking part in various activities of the celebrations.
On Oct. 9, foreign art troupes gave performances on out-door stages around the Hoan Kiem Lake , in Hanoi downtown.
Later in the evening, a grand banquet was held at the My Dinh National Convention Centre to welcome the millennium anniversary.
Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh, State President Nguyen Minh Triet, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong, representatives of Vietnamese heroic mothers, war veterans, foreign ambassadors and chiefs of international organisations in Vietnam were among those present at the banquet.-Enditem
