Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on October 21 met with voters who are lecturers and students of Ho Chi Minh City National University to hear their opinions on education-training and socio-economic development.
Voters expressed their belief in the high resolve of the Party, State, National Assembly and Government in curbing inflation to maintain economic growth, ensure social security and national defence and security.
They proposed the Government to give more empowerment and issue a special mechanism allowing HCM City National University to conduct a new educational method in a pilot basis.
The voters also raised their voice on amendments to the anti-corruption law, the country’s sovereignty, and public servants’ salary and living conditions.
At the meeting, PM Dung briefed the voters on the country’s socio-economic development. The country registered an economic growth rate of 4.73 percent in the first nine months of this year. Consumer price index in the reviewed period rose 5.13 percent. The poverty rate households is expected to fall 1.76 percent for the whole year.
Besides, 1.13 million new jobs were created in the January-September period, up 0.27 percent compared to same period last year.
However, five of 15 goals set for this year have been not met yet, he said.
According to the PM, further maintaining macro-economic stability with lower inflation rate and higher economic growth is expected to be defined as the general goal for 2013.
Besides, the country will push up the implementation of three strategic breakthroughs combined with economic restructuring and growth model shifting.
Applauding the voters’ proposal on mechanism for the university, the PM stressed that education development is one of three breakthroughs for the country to develop in rapid and sustainable manner. He asked the university to build its plan to submit it soon to the Government for approval.-VNA
