Frankfurt (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, his spouse and the high-rankingVietnamese delegation arrived at Frankfurt International Airport in Germany’sHessen state on the morning of July 5 (local time), beginning his trip to Germanyfor a working visit and attendance at the G20 Summit at the invitation ofGerman Chancellor Angela Merkel.

The VietnamesePM and his entourage were welcomed at the airport by Hessen State Minister forScience and Arts Boris Rhein and other officials of Hessen, VietnameseAmbassador to Germany Doan Xuan Hung and Consul General in Frankfurt NguyenHong Linh, among others.

He is scheduledto meet Deputy Governor and Minister for Economic Affairs of Rheiland-Pfalz State,Volker Wissing; President of the Federal Council and Governor of Rheiland-PfalzState, Malu Dreyer; Speaker of the Hessen State Parliament Nobert Kartmann; andHessen Governor Volker Bouffler.

He will visitthe Vietnamese Consulate General in Frankfurt.

The G20 Summitwill take place on July 7-8 under the theme “Shaping an Interconnected World”.Its three focuses are ensuring stability, improving viability for the futureand accepting responsibility.

As the host of theAsia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in 2017, Vietnam is invited toattend meetings within the G20 framework this year, participate in all debatesessions of the G20 Summit and give opinions on the draft joint statement ofthe event.

Vietnam andGermany set up diplomatic ties on September 23, 1975. Since then, bilateralfriendship and cooperation have been developing in an effective andcomprehensive manner.

Germany has beenone of the most important European partners of Vietnam for many years. Mutualtrust and understanding have been enhanced through the maintenance ofhigh-level delegations and cooperation mechanisms.

 In a trip to Vietnam by Chancellor AngelaMerkel in October 2011, the two countries signed the Hanoi Joint Statement on settingup a strategic partnership. Germany is currently the biggest trade partner ofVietnam in Europe, accounting for nearly 20 percent of Vietnam’s total exportsto the EU. It is also an important gateway for Vietnamese goods to othermarkets in Europe.-VNA
