Quebec (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc met with staff of the Vietnamese Embassy and representatives of the Vietnamese community from across Canada in Quebec on June 10 morning (local time).
At the meeting, Vietnamese expatriates expressed their delight at the fast socio-economic development of Vietnam as well as the success of PM Phuc’s participation in the G7 Outreach Summit and visit to Canada. They said the trip is a great contribution to bilateral relations and also an encouragement to the Vietnamese community in Canada.
They also informed PM Phuc about the life of Vietnamese in Canada, noting that with the support of the Vietnamese Embassy and overseas representative agencies, their material and spiritual lives have been improved.
The expatriates voiced their hope for more assistance from the Party and State in procedures for visa and returning to do business and invest in the homeland.
PM Phuc reiterated the Party and State’s consistent policy of considering overseas Vietnamese as an integral part and a resource of Vietnam. He stressed all Vietnamese expatriates, including those in Canada, are encouraged to return to visit and invest in the homeland to contribute to national development and protection.
He said 2018 marks the 45th founding anniversary of Vietnam-Canada diplomatic ties, noting that Vietnam is the top ASEAN trade partner of Canada. The PM recalled that during his meeting with PM Justin Trudeau in Vietnam in 2017, he had asked the Canadian leader to provide favourable conditions for the Vietnamese community in Canada, thus helping to enhance bilateral friendship.
Phuc noted with satisfaction that many Vietnamese people in Canada have been successful and actively engaged in key economic fields in Canada like science-technology and education.
The Government leader asked Vietnamese around the globe, including in Canada, to continue overcoming difficulties, keeping solidarity and mutual support, and contributing to the development of the homeland.-VNA
