Poland’s Constitution Day marked in HCM City

A gathering was held in Ho Chi Minh City on May 10 to mark the 228th anniversary of the Constitution Day of Poland (May 3, 1791).

A gathering was held inHo Chi Minh City on May 10 to mark the 228th anniversary of the ConstitutionDay of Poland (May 3, 1791).

The event was co-hosted by the HCM City Union ofFriendship Organisations (HUFO) and the Vietnam-Poland Friendship Associationwith the aim of showing the friendship and solidarity with Polish people.

Chairman of the Vietnam-Poland FriendshipAssociation Nguyen Dang Cuong highlighted the historical significance of theConstitution, the first of its kind in Europe and second in the world adopted,carrying progressive concepts and democratic ideas that put the power of thedynasty under the supervision of an organisaiton – the precursor of the laterconcept of parliament.

Poland was one of the earliest countries torecognise and establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam. The European countrysupported Vietnam in wartime as well as in the cause of national defence andbuilding, he said.

More than 4,000 Vietnamese students and officerswere trained in Poland, serving as a bridge to nurture the friendship andtraditional relations between the two countries, he added.

Polish Ambassador to Vietnam Wojciech Gerwelemphasised that both countries have had time-honoured friendship and have beencarrying out effectively cooperation in various fields such as trade, science,education and culture.

The Vietnamese community in Poland is one of thelargest communities in Europe, helping enrich the culture and economy ofPoland, he said.

Poland is the biggest trade partner of Vietnamin the East-Central Europe with two-way trade reaching 3.3 billion USD in 2018,up nearly 1 billion USD from the previous year.

Besides trade, Vietnam and Poland also have cooperativerelations in the fields of education, restoration of cultural and historicalrelic sites, and cultural exchanges, he added.-VNA

On March 14, 1988, engineering soldiers of the Vietnam People’s Navy stood resolutely on Gac Ma with a unwavering commitment to protecting the national flag amid the vast sea.
