Two people have been detained for allegedly spreading propaganda against the State, according to agencies in southern Long An province and Ho Chi Minh City .

Investigators announced at a press conference in HCM City on November 3 that the pair, named as Nguyen Phuong Uyen and Dinh Nguyen Kha have been prosecuted and temporarily held for up to four months.

Uyen, 20, from southern Binh Thuan province, was a third-year student at HCM City ’s Food Industry University and Kha, 24, from Long An province, worked as a computer repairer.

According to the investigation, on October 10 Uyen and Kha acted as a couple transporting a card-board box containing 2,000 anti-State leaflets and flags of the former Sai Gon regime from Long An to the An Suong flyover bridge in HCM City.

A timer was set to open the box, spreading leaflets believed to be based on articles written by the so-called Tuoi tre yeu nuoc (Patriotic Youth) organisation onto the street below.

The contents of the leaflets contained distorted and fabricated information on the Party and State’s religious and land policies, and biased viewpoints regarding the issue of Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) islands.

They also incited people to demonstrate against the Communist Party and the Socialist Republic State of Vietnam .

Each leaflet was attached with a Vietnamese note worth 5,000-10,000 VND or 20,000 VND.

Uyen and Kha allegedly then took photographs and filmed the scene.

Investigators said that the next day Uyen sent an email to a person named Nguyen Thien Thanh via yahoo mail with description of their actions and attached photos and videos.

On October 11, the Long An province’s authorised agency raided Kha’s home, seizing all anti-State documents.

It has been indicated that Kha and Uyen were guided by Thanh, who fled abroad after being found to violate Vietnamese law.

Uyen and Kha admitted their actions with the investigators. Kha also admitted that he had been studying how to make explosives with the intention of destroying some targeted places./.VNA
