The public security force plays an important role in coordinating with other agencies and sectors in activities of HIV/AIDS control at the community, affirmed Deputy Minister of Public Security Le The Tiem.
The public security force plays an important role in coordinating with other agencies and sectors in activities of HIV/AIDS control at the community, affirmed Deputy Minister of Public Security Le The Tiem.

Le The Tiem, who is also Head of the Steering Board for Drug and Prostitution Prevention and Fight, made the affirmation at the ministry’s conference to review 20 years of HIV/AIDS control of the ministry.

Tiem said the ministry has coordinated with other sectors to build legal documents on HIV/AIDS control, disseminate information on and improving capacity of HIV/AIDS control in the police force.

On this occasion, three units and three individuals of the police force received certificates of merit from the Prime Minister for their outstanding achievements in HIV/AIDS control.

By September 2010, the total number of people infected with HIV in Vietnam has exceeded 180,300, including more than 42,000 having developed full-blown AIDS. More than 48,000 people have died of the disease.

The Vietnamese government has carried out many measures and programmes on HIV/AIDS control and made some gains – 2010 is the third consecutive year when the number of people affected with the virus decreased and the number of deaths from HIV/AIDS also continued to drop./.
