Authorities of the Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu have set a goal to replace makeshift and dilapidated homes for 1,760 poor households by 2025, heard a meeting of businesses on January 17.
Under the scheme on eradication of dilapidated houses in 2025, the central province of Binh Dinh will spend over 214 billion VND (8.42 million USD) on supporting the construction and repairs of houses for 4,429 families of nation contributors and martyrs, poor and near-poor households and those that have just escaped poverty.
The business association in the northern province of Thai Binh on November 18 launched a campaign, calling on its members and local enterprises to join hands in accelerating the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses across the province.
In response to the national movement to join hands to repair and eradicate temporary and dilapidated houses, ministries, sectors, and individuals at home and abroad have contributed billions of VND to provide solid, permanent homes for the country’s most impoverished citizens.
Construction of 200 houses for poor and near-poor households commenced on November 17 in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho.
The south-central province of Ninh Thuan has mobilised resources from organisations, individuals and businesses to build houses for poor and near-poor households that are struggling with having a safe home to live in.
More than 1,500 ethnic minority households in the Mekong Delta province of Soc Trang have built new houses, changed their livelihood, and gradually escaped poverty thanks to preferential credit capital under the Government's Decree 28/2022/ND-CP on implementing the National Target Programme on Socio-Economic Development in Ethnic Minorities and Mountainous Areas for the 2021-2030 period.
The Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Committees at all levels in the southern province of Tien Giang have collaborated with agencies and organisations to speed up social security programmes, aiming to reduce the province's poverty rate to 0.87% this year, said Vice President of the provincial VFF Committee Huynh Van Hai.
The Central Highlands province of Lam Dong aims to support the construction and repair of a total of 1,813 houses in 2024-2025, said Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Pham S.
The central province of Quang Ngai has set a target to eliminate all temporary and dilapidated houses in 2025, said Standing Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Tran Hoang Tuan.
The Public Security Department of Dak Lak province has built and handed over 1,200 houses to local residents.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on July 16 signed a decision on the establishment of a national fund aiming to improve makeshift and dilapidated houses for poor and near-poor households.
Nearly 590 tonnes of rice from the national reserve has been allocated to the south-central province of Ninh Thuan to support local people during the between-crop period in 2024.
As many as 5,000 houses have been built and handed over to poor households in the northern province of Dien Bien under a housing project for the disadvantaged in Dien Bien (Project 09) launched by the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee in April 2023 to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory.
