Quang Ngai (VNA) – The central province of Quang Ngai has set a target to eliminate all temporary and dilapidated houses in 2025, said Standing Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Tran Hoang Tuan.
The province will also strive to provide support to revolution contributors who have difficulties in housing.
By 2022, the province had 21,138 poor and near-poor households with substandard housing area and quality. Since 2022, Quang Ngai has provided support to repair and build over 7,000 houses for poor and near-poor households.
Of the financial support, funds from national programmes on sustainable poverty reduction were used to repair and build 4,281 houses.
Meanwhile, resources from the State, Vietnam Fatherland Front at all levels and organisations in the province were mobilised to repair and build houses for 2,721 households.
According to the provincial People’s Committee, more than 4,000 poor and near-poor households in the province will get support to repair and build houses in 2025 with funding from national programmes.
The other 8,000 poor and near-poor households in the province still need to repair their houses or build new ones. Of these, 4,161 households have not had houses or are living in temporary or dilapidated houses while 3,704 poor households in rural areas and flood-prone areas need to build or repair houses.
To realise the housing target, Quang Ngai continues to mobilise resources from the "Fund for the Poor", the "Fund to Eliminate Temporary/Dilapidated Houses"; and receive the support of organisations, individuals, units, and enterprises, the official said, adding that the province has stepped up communications and encouraged people to make efforts to escape poverty and build houses by themselves.
The provincial People's Committee proposed the Standing Board of the provincial Party Committee establish a provincial steering committee for the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses, Tuan said.
Districts and communes will also have set up similar steering committees, which are expected to help the province realise the target of eliminating all temporary and dilapidated houses by the end of 2025, he added./.
Tra Vinh: nearly 100 more houses transferred to poor households
Nearly 100 more houses of the over 3,200 built as part of the movement “Mai Am Cho Dong Bao Toi” (Houses for Our Compatriots) were transferred to poor and near-poor households, families with difficult circumstances, and policy families in the Mekong Delta province of Tra Vinh on October 9.
