Preparations for the upcoming second summit between the US and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) are on schedule, earning appreciation from the two countries, Deputy Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung told the press on February 21.

Hanoi (VNA) – Preparations for the upcomingsecond summit between the US and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea(DPRK) are on schedule, earning appreciation from the two countries, DeputyForeign Minister Le Hoai Trung told the press on February 21.

The Deputy FM stressed that Vietnam has just nearly 20 days to prepare for theevent after US President Donald Trump announced Hanoi as the meeting venue. Henoted that for the first US-DPRK Summit last year, host Singapore had nearlytwo months for preparations.

Trung affirmed that high-ranking Vietnamese leaders have paid great attentionto the preparation work, adding that Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc himself hasgiven instructions and inspected the work. There has been close coordinationbetween relevant ministries, agencies and localities.

According to the official, Vietnam has discussed with both countries detailsrelated to security and protocol matters.

Besides, Vietnam has prepared infrastructure for the media centre and created favourableconditions for foreign reporters to cover the event, he said.

Deputy FM Trung said as the US-DPRK Summit is an event under internationalfocus, hosting the event is a tremendous fillip for Vietnam in many ways. Hesaid it is an occasion to demonstrate the country’s proactive responsibilityfor the international community as well as its wish to make contributions toregional and global peace.

He said in the past, the 1954 Geneva accord on ending war and restoring peacein the Indochina peninsula was signed in the Switzerland, but this time animportant peace summit takes place in Hanoi, the capital city of Vietnam, onthe occasion of 20 years it received the City for Peace title from the UNESCO.

The Deputy FM stressed that it is a remarkable change,showing Vietnam’s position and capacity in many fields.

By hosting this summit, Vietnam meets the expectations of the internationalcommunity and the two involved countries, that Vietnam is a safe country with goodsecurity, considerable experience during the development process, and friendlyties with neighbouring countries and the international community.

Furthermore, the summit provides a good opportunity for Vietnam to populariseits people and socio-economic development, he added.

According to the Deputy FM, as of now, some 2,600 foreign journalists haveregistered to come to Vietnam to report the event, and they will help introduceVietnam’s achievements to the world.

The second DPRK-US Summit (Hanoi Summit) is scheduled totake place in the capital city of Hanoi on February 27-28.-VNA
